WW2 German Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oakleaves Miniature

(Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub Miniatur).

Multi piece construction, with a 800 silver cross and oakleaf, and non-magnetic stickpin.

Marked on the reverse in centre of the oakleaf -

800 / 65

Marked on the reverse lower arm of the cross -

800 is the silver content (80% silver) and 65 is the early war manufacturer's number denoting Klein & Quenzer of Idar-Oberstein.

The silver frame and oakleaf exhibit minor tarnishing. The central swastika has had the paint removed. The core area is painted black and appears to be one piece with the frame (not an iron core, as per the full size version. The paint is undamaged. Overall, detail is good quality and crisp edged. Overall in very good condition. Stickpin has a kink near the top, to prevent it slipping off accidentally, and a central twisted section common to wartime made pins. See photographs. This is an absolutely stock standard example of this manufacturer's work.

These miniatures were all private purchase, and designed to be worn when the wearer was not in military uniform. The manufacturer was added to the list of approved Knight's Cross Suppliers in about 1943, but may well have been producing miniatures prior to that date, as they were not government regulated. This manufacturer was one of the major suppliers of Iron Crosses 1st and 2nd Class, throughout the war.

Cross and Oakleaf is 23.6 mm (0.93 in) tall and 15.6 mm (0.61 in) wide.
Pin is 49.6 mm (1.95 in) long.

Item weighs about 3.1 grams (0.11 oz).

There were only 882 oakleaf recipients.
