Original Pre-WW2 Spanish Army Senior Officer's Peaked Cap. With rank insignia of a Colonel (Coronel).
From the Spanish Civil War period (1936-39).
Note - All German Military personnel who participated in this conflict as part of the Legion Condor (on General Franco's side) wore a version of Spanish uniform and rank insignia. All ranks up to Lieutenant Colonel (Oberstleutnant) were raised one rank, for this purpose. Thus, this could have been worn by a German of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, or a Spanish Army full Colonel.
Standard pattern Spanish cap in olive green with a purple liner. Insignia is bullion embroidered straight onto the cap. Bullion is tarnished, but undamaged. Sweatband leather is worn but complete. No moth damage. The celluloid sweat shield has been removed from the inside crown. Lining is complete, and undamaged.
Marked on left side of sweatband with -
CALLE MAYOR 29. - MADRID
With a stylised peaked cap logo.
Cap is a very good exhibition piece, with no damage obvious from the outside. Well manufactured. Insignia is original to the cap, and does not appear to have ever been removed. Cap is complete.
Interior diameter is about 52 cm. That is approximately European size 52, UK size 6 3/8 or US size 6 1/2.
