Spanish Civil War period Officer's Peaked Cap for a Colonel. All German Military personnel who participated in this conflict as part of the Legion Condor (on General Franco's side) wore a version of their uniform and rank insignia. All ranks up to Lieutenant Colonel (Oberstleutnant) were raised one rank, for this purpose. Thus, this could have been worn by a German of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, or full Colonel. Standard pattern Spanish cap in olive green with a purple liner. Insignia is bullion embroidered straight onto the cap. Bullion is tarnished, but undamaged.
Sweatband leather is worn but complete. No moth damage.
The celluloid sweat shield has been removed from the inside crown. Lining is complete, and undamaged.
Marked on left side of sweatband with -
CALLE MAYOR 29. - MADRID
with a stylised peaked cap logo.
Cap is a very good exhibition piece, with no damage obvious from the outside. Well manufactured. Insignia is original to the cap, and does not appear to have ever been removed.
